Asthma payment model in the spotlight at the National MACRA/MIPS/APM Summit
The National MACRA MIPS/APM Summit was recently held in Washington, D.C. – and our own Stephen Imbeau, MD, FACAAI, was a speaker. The summit is the leading forum on the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), Alternative Payment Models (APMs) and other emerging value-based payment arrangements.
Thought leaders across the industry discussed the choices under MACRA and their implications on physicians and practices. The summit featured many examples of innovative approaches to health care payment and delivery that can help achieve MACRA goals. Dr. Imbeau, who is chair of the APM sub-committee of the Advocacy Council, has led the College’s efforts to develop the Asthma APM. This role led to his selection as a summit panelist on the subject of specialty medical homes, where he highlighted the College’s Asthma APM. According to Dr. Imbeau, “We were the only small specialty society to present at the conference attended by about 2,000 people, and there was great interest from the audience for our work. With the College’s APM, we hope to enhance both the quality of asthma care and revenues for our members.”
